Notice. New forum software under development. It's going to miss a few functions and look a bit ugly for a while, but I'm working on it full time now as the old forum was too unstable. Couple days, all good. If you notice any issues, please contact me.

Congrats Geoff for creating something that has lasted and been embraced by others and brought them joy. And bugger the rest of you bragging about retirement...I'm a few years off and trying to convince my better half that it should be sooner rather than later. Edited 2023-06-06 20:51 by Hawk |

Wow, time DOES fly, doesn't it! Congratulations, Geoff. I remember coming to the MM from the PICAXE. The first I heard about the MM, was the MaxiMite black-and-white unit featured in Silicon Chip. Back then, MMBASIC was NOTHING like the beast it has morphed into today. The original B/W Maximite did not even support plain old 8N1 serial comms! ...although, it WAS added in a later firmware update. And look at what can be done NOW with MMBASIC - it continues to improve, with the WEBmite port producing some incredible results making the WEBmite and MMBASIC a very good and easy to program unit for IoT tasks. I remember falling so in love with MMBASIC, that I basically(pardon the pun!) moved away from PICAXE to the Micromite chips once they became a reality. With no disrespect AT ALL to PICAXE, but the Micromite chips just had way too many cool features over the PICAXE not to. But then, PICAXE was perhaps designed more as a classroom tool to get students to learn how to code, but many of them were put to use in products etc. I still use the little 8-pin PICAXE for things like data-filtering a "Dumb" RF receiver, cos it very effectively can filter out all the white-noise and just output the wanted data to a Micromite chip that then processes it. The best of both worlds. But I'm starting to ramble on now, so I will stop! Smoke makes things work. When the smoke gets out, it stops! |

Thanks everyone. I guess that most have read this blurb but, if not, it describes how it started: https://geoffg.net/Maximite_Story.html Shortly after the first Maximite article was published in Silicon Chip (link) I spotted a post by Glenn (Gizmo on TBS) describing the Maximite (link) and I suggested to him that a forum about the Maximite on the Back Shed would be good. Glenn took the hint and created this forum which has grown to dominate TBS... but Glenn continues to support it, something for which I am very grateful. Thanks Glenn. Hehe... you didn't know what you were getting yourself into, did you Geoff? It's increased your literary abilities no end. :) Many thanks - you revolutionized my electronic hobby, for which I'll always be grateful. I'm still amazed whenever I use a 28-pin Micromite. It has no right to be able to do what it does! Thanks too, to Gizmo, for giving us a "home". :) While I'm at it - many thanks to Peter too for taking up this ball and running with it. :) Mick Zilog Inside! nascom.info for Nascom & Gemini Preliminary MMBasic docs & my PCB designs |
