Thanks all but the other 7 are already in place.. One of my big issues is I've a green/red colour deficiency so this is gonna be good! LOL It'll look okay in my eyes but folk will think I've gone mad. I once did a picture of Winnie the Pooh for my daughter.. (GEM Paint.. wayyy back ) Her response was priceless.. "That's brilliant Dad! but why is he green.." Fortunately, I work with my son and his eyes are perfect! I'd give my left arm to be ambidextrous |

I'm r/g colour blind so can only say picomite vga looks ok on various monitors... to me. the multi turn pot did nothing I noticed. |

At most it has a small effect so just use a fixed resistor of about half it's value. No need to be accurate, even a wire link will be fairly close. |

I loaded the latest vga firmware today and set up vga and sound and it all worked. cpuspeed 378000 and graphics are fast. I thought I was going to only use lcd mmbasic but the vga is only desk area prob. New rpi2040 but all went well, no probs, vga and sound , through vga monitor speakers. It's very impressive it worked first time. The vga was only out for esp32 but no joy with that. Picomite worked erste zeit! sorry for you guys having problemos :) Vga mode 2 and ili9341 is similar but not. Vga is fun though :) |

Question. Talking about CPUSPEED.. What is actually best. I mean! the device has a recommended 133 but most of you double this without any sort of heat sink. but 378 seems like madness. I'd give my left arm to be ambidextrous |

The "best" is probably to stick to 133MHz as it's within spec. :) However, I'm not aware of anyone having hidden reliability problems or overheating at higher clock speeds. The RP2040 seems to be pretty fast, the clock speed of 133MHz has more to do with the speed of the flash chip. Faster chips allow the RP2040 to run faster. As you probably know, not all Pico clones will run much faster than the specified speed (200MHz for example) but it does seem to be the lower spec flash that causes the problem. If yo attempt faster speeds and the thing won't run at all then just clear the flash & re-install MMBasic - setting a more sensible speed. :) Mick Zilog Inside! nascom.info for Nascom & Gemini Preliminary MMBasic docs & my PCB designs |

Once over (486 period) overclocking had it's perils. My 486DX running at 66Mhz used more power than the 33Mhz it was supposed to be running at.. I believe some used far better cooling and run these at 120.. But here's the rub. "Better cooling" the pico just has air! I'd give my left arm to be ambidextrous |

The RP2040 runs massively overclocked with almost no impact on temperature. The VGA version of the firmware runs at 126MHz, 252MHz or 378MHz |

Overclocking seems no problem and vga or spi lcd it is visibly noticeable the speed increase. Why not overclock? Sound works fine vga and non-vga. |

Try monitoring PIN(TEMP) to get an idea of the RP2040 temperature. When you hit about 60C consider a small stick-on heatsink just to be safe. I can't get anywhere near that at 378MHz on a RP2040-Zero, where there is less board area to act as a heatsink. :) The stick-on heatsink isn't to protect the silicon (that's perfectly safe until the package is well over 70C), it's to prevent you from accidentally touching the chip, thinking you are getting burned and knocking something else over or dropping it. :) Edited 2023-06-12 01:46 by Mixtel90 Mick Zilog Inside! nascom.info for Nascom & Gemini Preliminary MMBasic docs & my PCB designs |

laser thermometer says chip is 26.x C. heat no problem overclocked for over 2 hours. vga frame rate is faster than spi lcd for same 320x240 16 colour. clever |

Done... Just the sound to do.. Need to connect the RTC as well but running none the less In colour as well. I'd give my left arm to be ambidextrous |

Excellent! Isn't it great when you get one of these little setups working? Even when Geoff & Peter have done all the hard stuff for us. :) Mick Zilog Inside! nascom.info for Nascom & Gemini Preliminary MMBasic docs & my PCB designs |

I'm getting a bit long in the tooth ( which is a weird saying as all mine have worn down) and the SD card has a DI and a DO !! on the pico diagram it has RX or TX! In the construction schematic it has MISO and MOSI .. Because I have the SD on SPI2..... Well I got it wrong a couple of times DI (data in ) connects to TX....Took a while!! Working now.. Gonna test a program or two before I fit sound!! Edited 2023-06-12 23:22 by IanRogers I'd give my left arm to be ambidextrous |

LOL just for your entertainment.. I typed in GUI TEST LCDPANEL Something happened but not what I was expecting.. Then the sun rose.. Mode 1 is mono Mode 2 worked a bit better!! I'd give my left arm to be ambidextrous |

Interesting. I didn't know that GUI TEST LCDPANEL worked on VGA displays - and LCD panels don't have Mode 1 and Mode 2 ... Are you trying to get me even more confused than I usually am? (It's difficult - being confused is normality for me. :) ) Oh - and don't worry - decoding SPI connections is a pain until you get used to it. It was only just after I'd got used to MISO and MOSI that it became politically incorrect to use them, even though they are completely logical and there is no meaningful substitute. Confused???? Well CLS rgb(yellow) in mode 1 turns the screen yellow. you can clear the screen in any colour in mode 1. But its a mono mode...go figure..GUI test lcdpanel in mode 1 draws white circles until no more room is to be had. Mode 2 does it properly. I'd give my left arm to be ambidextrous |

My mistake was connecting sound filter to monitor audio in before setting the audio gpio pins and there's a quiet tone from the monitor speakers that disappeared when audio pins set. |
