Notice. New forum software under development. It's going to miss a few functions and look a bit ugly for a while, but I'm working on it full time now as the old forum was too unstable. Couple days, all good. If you notice any issues, please contact me.

The Bunnings wicks are a bit bulky. I might try re-lacing one with a bit less cotton.

I did use a vacuum cleaner to suck a bit of air movement and the wet bulb dropped enough to reduce the Rh by 10% as expected.

To measure soil moisture, the resistance of plaster-of-paris between a couple of metal plates 1cm apart is not bad.

Not sure how accurate it is to measure the air humidity through measuring the soil humidity. But maybe that can be done also. Thanks for the suggestion.
For the time being I will focus on repeating Jim's test (I found similar wick, we use it to light fireworks newyears eve).

  Andrew_G said  Gregor et al,
Or one of these.  Capacitive but fully enclosed (Au$31.45 + postage).
I bought one to monitor moisture content under our new house (we have a soil lens that may bring water to the surface).

Cheers,

Andrew

That looks more professional.
