Hello,

i grabbed an UBW32 (Schmalzhaus) out of the box.
Bought it some years ago.

I would like to flash MMBASIC.

But if i plug it into my WIN11 PC not Device (serial, HID) shows up, of course i presssed the Prog Buttun during plug in the USB Cable.

Same happens under Linux, nothing with LSUSB/Dmesg.

The 4 LEDS (USB/LED1/LED2/LED3 are blinking and PWR is on.

There should be a bootloader on the Board, but....
Every Help/Idea is appreciated

THX in advance

I think you'll need to use picprog32 to load MMBasic firmware 1st time.

not sure as I've only use the 170.

What makes you think MMBasic will run on that chip? Just asking.

The UBW32 was first used for the original Monochrome MaxiMite and then for the Colour MaxiMite 1.

I think you need some software installed on Win10 and above for it to "see" the UBW32.
I'm sure someone on here will have it. It may be on Geoff's Web page at the bottom called "Windows Serial Port Driver"?

Edit - I looks like the driver won't work under Win8 and above, so you may have to use a programmer

@atmega8:

You can find all the info you need here: https://geoffg.net/OriginalColourMaximite.html
When downloading under "Original Colour Maximite MMBasic firmware V4.5C (also for the UBW32 with colour)" you can find the document "Loading New Firmware.pdf".
There you will find the process explained in detail.

A 'new' UBW32 needs to be loaded with the original "firmware with bootloader" first.
After that, you can update to V4.5C using the serial port.

It's a long time since I did it but I do have a number of UBW32 boards all with MMBasic loaded successfully.

A manual by a user is here.
https://www.c-com.com.au/stuff/Manual.pdf
(I was unable to uploaded to TBS.)

Hello,

trying to use the bootloader doesn’t work, because no Device was detected in Win 11 ( comx, HID).

Flashed UBW32 with Pickit 3 using the Hexfiles from schmalzhaus.com.
Same Result.

Flashed the whole Mmbasic HEX from Geoff.
Now comx, and Mmbasic 4.5c is up and running. Got comx and Terminal Access over USB is full working.

Jim, thank you for this valuable Manual.
Now, I remember it, after a long time…
I also found this baseboard from ( Dontronics?) and now it’s Time to bring this Combo back to life.

Another wonderful Mmbasic Device.
Thank to Geoff and all the other smart people, that makes this possible.
Go on!

Thanks for uploading that manual Jim,

I wrote it many moons ago and was looking for it when I saw you had beaten me to it.

If there is still any interest I will upload the gerber files to get the PCB board built from JLCPCB

Regards,

Mick (MBG)
