I have surplus CMM2 parts for sale. This is the CMM2 Generation 1  Waveshare module. New with the latest CMM2 firmware loaded. It has a V revision chip so will run at full speed. Circuit board V2.1 This board has the provision for the 8MHz oscilator mod and mainly through-hole components. 8MHz oscillator module Both USB ports. Battery holder. 2mm pitch sockets for the Waveshare module. Will not split and prefer ship to AUS due to postage rates for overseas. Price $75 express postage included. Hi TassyJim, I know I may be a bit late on the uptake, but do you still have the Waveshare module/kit for sale? I have bought one of the last 2 CMM2 gen1 short kits from SC in the hope that someone else may have the CPU module for sale. I am a new member and this is my first post/response. I was just getting started with MM back in 2012 but suffered a bad fall and have only recently returned to the Microprocessor world. Catch-up is such fun🙃 TasOak/Glen |

Welcome to the forums.  If Jim cannot help, I can:  I have three, two still sealed in their original bags. The one out of the bag, will have some version of the firmware in it already. I never bothered to offer these on my website, or even here on the forums, as I expected no-one wanted them anymore, with the all-in-one PCB design being the default standard, and the gen1 design not really desirable - up until the chip shortages during COVID. If you or anyone else is interested, send me a PM and we can make a deal. Happy to ship overseas at your cost. Smoke makes things work. When the smoke gets out, it stops! |

You'll only know if you need the mod when you come to test the graphics modes. Some people are lucky and everything is fine, I wasn't (as expected.... :( ). By then, of course, everything is soldered in. From "CMM2_G1_Construction Guide.pdf": External Oscillator The latest PCB has provision for an external 8 MHz crystal oscillator to replace the 8 MHz crystal on the Waveshare CPU board. This may be needed in some rare cases where a monitor has difficulty with some VGA modes (such as 800x600 pixel 16-bit colour). Most people will not need this modification however, if it is required, it can be implemented by installing the external oscillator and a capacitor on the motherboard (under the Waveshare CPU board). The 8MHz crystal on the Waveshare board does not have to be removed. The parts required are: 1 SMD 1206 100nF ceramic capacitor 1 8MHz oscillator in 5.0 x 7.0 mm SMD package (QX7 XO 25ppm). As shown in the photos, the board I supplied has the pads for the oscillator and I have supplied the required oscillator. I would strongly advise that the oscillator is used. Jim VK7JH MMedit MMBasic Help |

Ah🤔Thankyou to Mick and Jim, so the preventative approach is taken to be able to solder in the oscillator without having to desolder the close spaced socket pins. Makes sense to me, thanks again to you both. Regards Glen |

Having been on the road since before these toys were delivered, thanks to both TassieJim and Grogster, all safe and sound. I have just finished building the first CMM2 G1, as the waveshare module was already programmed, I managed to bring it to life immediately, very satisfying  Things started going sour fairly quickly when i started typing in a program, the "" key was producing @@ symbols, but luckily the reverse was simply that, and Tera Term was producing the correct result, not perfect, so i started chasing the latest firmware. easy to find Next comes STM32CubeProgrammer v2.14.0, and that's where it all stops, programmer wants to communicate with STM server, ok, but it insists on a Proxy, nothing else will do, I have changed the proxy setting in the program to None and done the same in win10, still no communication, restarted programs and computer. What am i missing? the program says it needs server comms to download updates, but its the latest edition anyway, so I suppose its to get chip specific data. Is there an alternative or do I start setting up a Proxy server for my home internet? too much time away from a computer is not good for senior brains |

I use Cube to program all the CMM2's I setup here, and it never asked for a proxy....  It DID force me to jump through a couple of email hoops before you can download the program itself, but once you have done that, I just run the programmer and away you go. Perhaps you could post a screen-shot of the message you are getting? Smoke makes things work. When the smoke gets out, it stops! |

Humble pie please, a generous serve. Whilst Cube complains of a lack of connectivity due to proxy server issues, one need only get on with the programming aspect and all goes according to Geoff. It’s probably good that it cannot communicate anyway, and being a fresh download it’s the latest version already. Now to get on with the next lesson😁 Cheers Glen Ps.
