I'm going to have a go at removing the google adverts on the site and make the space available for advertising by businesses more in line with what the site is about. I hate the google adverts. I have no control over what they want to advertise, and where on the page they advertise. Those adverts on each side of the page, I didn't put them there, the space is at the bottom of the page, but google decided to move it to the sides. Plus google wants us site owners to jump through more and more legal hoops, its just a pain. They can get stuffed. The adverts do earn between $120 and $150 a month income for the site, which pays for the hosting and coffee. But I dont keep the site going for the earnings, its more so for you guys who use is. If the income stopped, the site would continue. So thinking of putting up place holders with a "Advertise here" banner. If a individual or business wanted to place a advert, I would sign them up into a ad rotator ( my own code, nothing external ), and they could pay per click through, or bulk impressions. The code will give them a report of how many impressions or click through their advert got, the remote IP, date/time, etc. Prices will be more than reasonable, like a dollar for 1000 impressions, 20c to 50c a click through, depending on size and type. The ads will need to be approved by me first, so nothing political, religious, sexy, nasty, conspiracy theory, etc. Any charity ( not church based ) will be free. Hope to have this in place in January. Glenn The best time to plant a tree was twenty years ago, the second best time is right now. JAQ |

Sounds great! I would use it for my business. Smoke makes things work. When the smoke gets out, it stops! |

I must admit that I tried to keep TBS out of my add-blocker but I got fed up with the adds for skimpy underwear and other suspicious click-bait. Prostrate cancer has put an end to any need for 'enhancement' I will unblock again when you have the new system up and running. I might even click on the links. Jim VK7JH MMedit |

Is this by any chance a side effect of the Google Ad changes? I'm now getting ads in the middle of posts. ![]() At least they're good quality ads. Why yes, I do like to be driven around in a limousine. I'll have my butler order one post-haste my good man! |

I'll send you USD 300 if you can lose the popups for 2 months. |

If you are logged in, you shouldn't see any ads. The best time to plant a tree was twenty years ago, the second best time is right now. JAQ |

I was wondering why I wasn't seeing any ads, but others were, as I didn't think I had done anything special to deliberately avoid them. BarryH |

Removed all ads from the mobile screen version of the forum. The ads were meant to be a block at the bottom of the page, but google was sticking them all over the place, making the mobile view ( for non members ) impossible to use. I'll look into this at a later date. If I can contain any ads to the bottom of the screen, and not over the top of anything, then I'll reintroduce them. I find using a cell-phone on the net to be very hard work. The pop-ups are CRAZY, and they are always popping up over what you are trying to read. On small cellphone screens, that is 100% irritating. Tablets aren't much better either, IMHO, but cellphones are so bad, I have the WiFi or mobile data features permanently disabled. Smoke makes things work. When the smoke gets out, it stops! |

For months, when I log in, I see "whos online" at the bottom of the page and invariably I see 2 "wiseguys". One is plenty and I dont understand why it shows two but when I log out to see if it affects one of the logins I cant see if 1 is still logged in... I have checked all phones laptops PCs etc but can't seem to lose the other wiseguy, are you able to pm me IP addresses or any other identifying feature that might help me solve this? Amazing! a few minutes after writing this message one of the wiseguys disappeared?? Either you fixed it or I need to change my password! Yeah dont worry about the forum displaying you as logged in more than once. its just a session variable getting confused. The best time to plant a tree was twenty years ago, the second best time is right now. JAQ |
