Interesting article and thanks for sharing. There is a German co. making MWatt turbines minus gearboxes already and one suspects the electronics perform the electrickery for the grid. But let's wish our lads the best of luck with their idea.

It certainly looks promising. I have to wonder at the accuracy of the article though. A normal turbine already costs 3 to 5 $million not anywhere near 15 $million.

It would be nice to have turbines that produce more than around 25% which is typical on average. It doesn't get away from the wild variability of power generated though. If they can come up with some way of smoothing out the fluctuations then maybe they are onto something. Unfortunately, there are quite a lot of times when the wind doesn't blow, sometimes for days on end. What then?

A long way to go yet I think.
