Crew As promised, here's a LINK to my new place in Texas. It's 420.8 MB for those with limited download capability. It's a little video showing my new place in Texas and the progress to date I've made on converting the existing little barn into a back shed for building windmimlls, R/C airplanes and a variety of other projects. Most of the stuff I've done so far is to get me through my first winter here. You'll note the wood stove, a MUST for the cold weather I'm not used to, having lived most of my life on the beach in California. As projects develop, I'll post the builds here on the 4m in the appropriate section. For anybody worried that I may have exposed too much of my "toys" to the general public, relax. This is Texas and everyone has a gun; I'm no exception. This homeowner, by the way, does NOT fire warning shots. Anyone interested in nosing around uninvited will be chased down by either .32 or .357 full metal jacket or hollow point! Enjoy! . . . . . Mac Nothing difficult is ever easy! Hey Mac, Believe it or not turkeys and geese are about the best "watch dogs" for a small place in the country....they are pretty good at makeing noise when a stranger comes around, but not much of a match for a owner with a gun. Also, it helps if you are in good terms with the neighbors, they will naturally keep an eye out for strangers. Thats a nice place you have...lots of room for the projects and any pets. I can visulize the place in a few years...lots of potential. Mac46 I'm just a farmer |

I am hoping the Texan nearby neighbours are a greater photo than our own legendary Foreign bikie gangs, there has been a full-scale gang shootout with regard to 12 months now. Crew Not sure how all the gun talk got started. For anyone who gives a s*!t, I got my license to carry a concealed weapon a week or two ago. I had to qualify on the range and shot a 249 out of possible 250. I used a Glock 9mm. I used to work for the government and was required to qualify monthly, but haven't shot for 48 years! Hi Mack A gun is a tool that can be used for good or bad, unfortunately the media only reports on the misuse thereof. The tupperware machine is a good one but I prefer a SIG, all metal. It is good to see the progress you have made on the new QTH, I hope to see some more solar panels and wind turbines gracing the skyline in the near future. [/quote] Bob, Mate, buddy, friend, with all you have done in life, i would have thought putting the tomato roots into the ground was a given fact. Remember ... Green bushy end up, dirty fluffy root looking ends in the ground.

Hi Pete I was trying to grow them hydrophonicaly but got all sorts of fungus and root rot so reverted to the old soil as originally intended. 
Green end up white end down seems to work OK. Mafia tomatoes are usually planted in concrete, and that costs to much for me so have to stick to the local sandy soil, likes a lot of water but that is better than having plants die of fungus as in the previous experiment.

Bob Using Hydroponics, root rot comes from two things: not enough aeration in the root area and / or too much heat on the bucket. I too have switched over to growing in dirt again. As soon as I have the raised beds up and growing, I'll send you a picture. A neat trick for growing tomatoes is to plant them right inside a 2-pound plastic bag of potting soil. Remember to use a pencil to punch holes in the bottom of the bag for drainage, then just lay the bag on the ground and begin growing. It's only enough plant food for one season, but with daily watering, the tomatoes are outrageous! When it begins thawing out around here (March?) I'll put up my 6-station (6 pumps) air-pumping windmill as well as start building my GINORMOUS VAWT. This VAWT sports a flat blade as big as you wish. I think I'll make mine on the order of 3 feet wide and 8 or 10 feet long. It'll be unlike anything you've ever seen before, but you should have guessed that much. Anything "normal" would not fit my handle (MacGyver) right? . . . . Mac Nothing difficult is ever easy! Hi Mack I think the high temp was the problem as it was over 35 c a lot of the time, I will send a photo of the new effort, all is growing well at the moment. I look forward to seeing your new creation as my mate has tried flat blades with some success. All the best Bob Foolin Around |
