Notice. New forum software under development. It's going to miss a few functions and look a bit ugly for a while, but I'm working on it full time now as the old forum was too unstable. Couple days, all good. If you notice any issues, please contact me.

Im going bush with bicycle and my laptop. I need a power source to either charge the laptop battery/recharge external battery (ie. 12v 15ah gel cell) or run the laptop. I will be riding maybe 6 hours a day. Ive looked at hub dynamos and they tend to be 6v and not so powerful. There are a few websites that suggest using stepper motors with instructions on assembly but Im really not a tech person. Does anyone know of someone who can set something up for me using bike pedal power along these lines. I live in Melbourne and happy to pay.

Hi hetrazom

In Silicon Chip magazine November 2011 they did a write up of a electric pushbike conversion. It uses a hub motor, very similar to the hub motors used by some forum members in their windmills. It should be fairly straight foward to set up one of these kits to act as a alternator to charge a battery, and as a motor to assist you up hills etc. So long as you put more peddal power in than you take out, you'll end up with a charged battery at the end of the day.

Thanks. Their kits may be more than I need but they should be able to set me up with something. I will contact them.
