Notice. New forum software under development. It's going to miss a few functions and look a bit ugly for a while, but I'm working on it full time now as the old forum was too unstable. Couple days, all good. If you notice any issues, please contact me.

Quote  Perhaps you could cover with the Styrofoam, fill with PU expanding foam and apply a layer of F/glass to keep it all together? The PU and poly styrene foams both shape well using very coarse sandpaper.

All good, but this could read as glassing over styofoam is recommended, and simply it wont work, as the vapors alone in polyester resin will melt the foam regardless if its in direct contact or not.
Although PU expanding foam can be glassed over with no problems as Mobi has suggested.

Pete.
Sometimes it just works

Sorry, I should have specified epoxy not polyester. Even so, you can use polyester resin on polystyrene if you paint it first with a good coat or two of neutral sealant such as acrylic paint.
