Notice. New forum software under development. It's going to miss a few functions and look a bit ugly for a while, but I'm working on it full time now as the old forum was too unstable. Couple days, all good. If you notice any issues, please contact me.

Been here before, as old thread is in archive, I`ll check again if there is any interest in the 4m for having data web hosted. Am a complete novice, had a web site way back last century.

Is there anyone in the 4M interested in a site hosting such? Alternatively some info to point me in this direction would be appreciated. As have just upgraded my weather station to show Sun data, lux, UV and w/m2, as well as general weather data, believe this info could slot right into 4M`s interest.

Hey Norcold.

Are you looking for somewhere to send your data to, that can display it online, or offering a place for others to send their data to?

Glenn,
To send data to as the software is capable of. Where it can be displayed and viewable to the interested. Have placed a link below to one, I`m not looking for one as extensive as this at present. Thinking along the lines that other 4M members may also have an interest in this area. The software maker(Cumulus) I currently use has just offered such service but it`s located in the Netherlands, which I suppose should be no drama, just like things more local.

Gorge Creek Weather

Or perhaps you may know someone in the trade who offers such service(pay for). I recall way back in the closed section RossW offered if members were interested, when I originally floated the idea.

BOM have recently got together with the UK Metoffice and now have a site that allows personal weather station data to be recorded and accessed online. If you go to the below and type in my location ID 803036167 you can view some weather data, to get times right you`ll have to sign up (free no drama) and input your time zone.

Is only a new service and doesn`t display all available data but is easy and free to conx automatically if you have compatible software. Interesting feel sure Bom will expand this to include all data as it becomes popular.

I`m probably flogging a dead horse here as there seems little interest but have finally got weather station data published online in a world wide site that promotes such personal weather data. It is all achieved automatically, with data throughout the world that shows weather data in particular to this 4M - Wind and Sun data.

If you look in your area on this sites map I have no doubt you`ll find data from a station close to you. Below is my data but to find those close to you expand the map to cover your location.

Now I`ve done it, can say it is very easy. I`m using a WH3081, which is an ebay el cheapo($100 or so). Comes under many different rebadged brands but is actually a Fine Offset made in China. The software is Cumulus a donation ware.

Once you have a account set up at Weather Underground you input that account PWS (Personal Weather Station) number and your password into Cumulus`s Internet Configuration menu tick what data you want sent and voila your internet conx does the rest automatically. Of course you`ve also must tell Cumulus in its station configuration your PWS`s model brand etc.

Weather Underground gives you a free account for a year, Cumulus has a Catch Up feature that automatically catches up your data if like me you turn your PC and internet conx off of a night.

To the fellows who are silicon savvy this would be no drama, but for me took a bit to get my head around it.
WH3081

This ebay seller is a little more expensive than others but he`s been around awhile and offers backup. I have had a earlier model WS1081 that has and still is working for 5 plus years replaced it with the WH3081 because it has Sun data capabilities and sensors about 6 months ago.

Weather Underground is not the only such "collector" of data, in the Cumulus Internet Config you`ll see the others. I`ve subscribed to them all (free) and am inputting data auto into them all. Just found Weather Underground the largest with the most "hits" and most PWS`s collecting data. As mentioned earlier in this thread BOM has a PWS collection site but it is not as comprehensive as yet.

For these sites it is only optional that you require your own domain and I have not gone down that path as yet. This old fossil has trouble getting his head around that stuff, but no doubt once done it`ll be easy, I`m waiting on my 5 year old grand daughter to "learn" me the ropes.

Anyhow if you have a go Bob, and have problems I`ll have a shot at a photo enhanced tutorial such as 4M members like gizmo & film do so well. No doubt my grand daughter will help there. I also had email assistance from another close PWS fellow who like all enthusiasts are very willing to help.

Cumulus is not the only software, there are plenty, it is just the one I`ve used for 5 years plus, the only one I`ve used.

I do believe PWS`s are very relevant to this 4M, aligned with our RE interests. A compliment to every backshed.eg in time if you follow my data you`ll see why Solar is the way for me and Wind is just another interest. Just not a wind site. You`ll find some of the enthusiasts on Weather Underground have spent thousands but I`ve got in for under $200.

Hi Vic

Thanks for the help, my old weather station was blown away in a storm this year so needed replacement and the one I got hasn't got computer link so looks like I need another one. I did try the cumulus program when the 4um discussion was going originally but couldn't get it to work, so looks like I will have to have another go.

I will order the machine you recommend next week and have a play with it. My grandson is a IT freeek but to get him to come to the bush is like pulling teeth so I am on my own on this one.

I had a look at the site you mentioned and it seems OK not to complicated for a vintage practitioner.

All the best

Bob
