Thinking of adding a EDM head to my CNC router. EDM, or Electric Discharge Machining, is a way to machine metal using a electric current. There's a few home made EDM guides on the internet, but I thought I would ask the forum if anyone had experience in building their own EDM. My CNC is fine for machining wood or plastic, but not rigid enough for any metal work, so a EDM attachment make sense. It would be a slow process, but could be used for some intricate work. No i have not, but i did take a interest in the idea some years back when i came across it by accident. It all seemed simple enough, but im sure there is.... Home builder Beware. learning curve to make it all work correctly if one actually can. Perhaps a little easier if someone has actually run a EDM and know the requirements from experience. Glen You do realize an EDM runs UNDER oil, right? The piece of work is submerged in clear oil and as the discharge does its thing, the oil cools things as well as conducts the small chunk removed, away from the work.
