Hi All Found this listing and it is of interest to those who want to compress air for motive energy. http://www.mdi.lu/english/index.php The need of an extremely economic and ecological car is currently an evidence. More and more cars makers seek this type of vehicle. From these observations and with the advantages of its concept of industrialization, MDI initiated the study of a low cost, utility clean car. The Industrial Concept and light construction technology of MDI allow to reach this challenge. This type of cars is intended to drive in overpopulated and particularly polluted cities. It is the only vehicle on the market answering these characteristics: Two minutes refill Mono-energy compressed-air in city, dual-energy on road Zero Pollution with mono-energy, 30g of CO2 with dual-energy 900Km road range with dual-energy, 100Km with mono-energy Car body monoblock made in fiberglass and external chassis for safety This "Mehari" of modern times will be produced in two models: A basic version from € 3500 A more complete version from € 5300 Technical Characteristics Unit Basic Standard Length m 3.4 Width m 1.65 Height m 1.7 Number of Seats 3 à 5 Trunk dm3 300 1200 Weight kg 320 380 Power cv 15 25 Maximum speed km/h 90 110 Price (from) € 3500 5300 Mono-energy Version Unit Base Normale Air Tank capacity l 300 Urban range (Zero Emission) km 100 CO2 Emission down town g/km 0 Range on road km 50 CO2 Emission on road g/km 0 Dual-energy Unit Base Basic Air Tank capacity l 155 Fuel Tank capacity l 15 Fuels admitted Petrol, diesel, biodiesel, alcohol, vegetal oils, ... Bob, That site certainly shows the potential of air, be very interesting in a few years I suspect. Remember many years ago playing with "reverse" refrigeration, now heat pumps to heat houshold water and rooms are available and much more efficient than electric immersion heaters. Just had my solar panels replaced under warranty (18*123w Sharp) old ones had slowly degraded without my being aware, thought the missus was just using too much power or the weather was lousy(apparently). Add 2 windmills coming from fiim, will have suddenly got a boost in available power and will look to storage other than batteries. Compressed air and pumped water overhead are the two storage methods in mind, compressed air though probably less efficient than water is looking more attractive. Vic We come from the land downunder. Hi Vic Compressed air is a way of storing energy that would be normally dumped and wasted the main problem is having enough storage capacity to be useful. In the future we will be looking at a lot of these storage methods to give a night boost to batteries or direct energy generation, the car has potential as a town shopping trolly which is 90 % of most motoring needs anyway, in the future it may be all we need, All the best Bob Foolin Around |
