[ Japan's JAXA has successfully recovered the sample return craft from Hayabusa2, which sampled a gram of material from a carbonaceous asteroid (formed approx 6 billion years ago) and has returned it to earth ] Excellent !!! A five billion k trip....6 years or so... after an initial try that didn't go so well... grit and determination against astonishing odds...and SUCCESS !!!! And probably the only way of getting a realistic sample of carbonaceous asteroid, at least without it being changed a lot. Fantastic stuff JAXA !!!! It is amazing. |

When I read the Title Hayabusa 2, I thought it was the release of another King of the hill ball tearer motorcycle, the Suzuki Hayabusa. Thought they might have done at the factory what the go fast guys have been doing, Turbo the things....For when 1340 Cc and 195 Hp just isn't quite enough. With a turblow they can get 350+ Hp. Love watching Vids where these things lift the front wheel going through 100 Mph. Instead, you were talking about a gram of Rock. Each to their own but to me the motorcycle would have been much more exciting! :0) What do they hope to learn from the piece of asteroid? |

An incomprehensible Distance to twit like me. Likewise the level of Technology that must go into something like this. Must be the most expensive / valuable 5 Grams of dirt in human history and obviously the rarest as well. At least they got far more than they counted on which must have been a huge bonus. I would like to own a piece of meteorite. Understandably expensive stuff and unaffordable to me for a decent chunk. |

Ditto me. I thought it was about a new engine. Smoke makes things work. When the smoke gets out, it stops! |
