I have been researching and experimenting with Graphene and graphite

A believe a high energy density diy battery is possible

It may be possible to print or spray the active materials onto large rolls

The rolls could be made to fit in a five gallon bucket

Each bucket would be a single cell with a large amp hour rating but low voltage

These bucket cells could be series or parallel connected for any voltage or any amp hour rating

High grade home made Graphene and graphite can be made and doped fairly easily

Thay have higher energy density then lead acid and a very high cycle life

There are examples of paper batterys
and non-toxic batteries with simple electrolytes

You can get started being amazed with stuff you already have in your kitchen like microwave and blender

Graphene can be made out of old carrots Apple banana peels almost anything

Some are better than others and some will be naturally doped

My goal is a diy battery made from easily obtained or easily made cheap and printable or sprayed ingredients

These ingredients printed or sprayed on a roll to be put in a cheap or free 5 gallon
bucket

Robert Smith on youtube has hours of videos on subject and more

He is incredibly entertaining and is to his field like you guys are to yours

He is truly what I call a great

I never thought to post about it here

I was texting a good friend telling him what I was into and it got me thinking

Some of the world's greatest minds are here on this site

Thay are truly humble generous and wise

Thay shere ideals and work together

Thay are not motivated by financial gain or Pride

Thay Answer to No One But theirselves

Thay have no pressure to use inferior components or rush through

They're free to unlock there potential

Thay can think in untraditional ways

These I think are a few of the reasons
you guy have had so much success

Imitation is the greatest from of flattery

I fill this is the missing link to all that is done on this site

I hope you guys consider watching a few videos by Robet Smith or others about graphene caps and batteries

Thanks for your time and have a blessed

When you say Low Voltage, How Low and what sort of Ah do you think a bucket size cell would have?

Yes, I have been working on and looking at homemade batteries.

Something I have been considering to do as a  'How to make a 2v 60kg PLANTE battery' Book.

For the time being the most cost effective solution for power output and material use is the humble PLANTE type lead acid, where both plates of the cell are lead sheet and the immersed medium is sulphuric acid mix, a 15 to 1, where 1 is a 80% sulphuric.

Several things have made this PLANTE cell possible.   1. Polypropylene woven material can be used as a sock separator on each lead sheet.  2. Polypropylene containers made to a particular size can be easily commercially obtained.

So the Finished PLANTE 2v cell can be up to say 60kg in weight, be dismantlable, the acid internally can be minimal as the lead plates with socks can be really tight inside its container.

Disadvantages ….

PLANTE batteries are a pain to set the internal oxides as on charging they need up to 25 charge and discharges over a fairly long time to coat the plate with the Oxide that defines the Anode and Cathode.

I have done a couple of cells and each time I have got the Anode and Cathode the wrong way round, typical!.

In real life Expect only 1/3rd of the AH for a PLANTE battery against a commercial battery of the same weight.

https://docs.exideindustries.com/pdf/industrial-batteries/Plante-Range.pdf

One thing about the PLANTE battery each time the cell is discharged and then charged the battery gets better and better AH.  And life of a Plante battery is incredibly long.

Graphene battery is interesting and I have watched its development, but at present there are just to many variables. But I will keep tinkering as I believe that graphene cells may indeed be usefull and can be self built in the future.
Everything is possible, just give me time.

As far as graphene batteries go your electro-light determines your cell voltage

There are many good graphine material already known and tested

like sugarcane vegetable oil Coal many others

High surface area conductivity
what you dope it with and electrolyte determines the capacity

I was searching for best material to make graphite out of but I am now past that stage now

Once you get you're graphene figured out you can add capacity to the cell by choosing electrolytes that hold a charge

Graphene battery is by far cheaper then lead or any other if you make your own materials which is very easy to do

You can make a truckload of graphite for cheap or free

A sealed barrel with hole in bottom
put in a larger barrel with stove pipe fitted to lid

You can make graphene with a autoclave
you can make one cheaply if you cant have a fire outside

Space in between two barrels are filled with scrap wood

The center Barrel is filled with whatever you want to turn into your carbon or graphite whatever you want to call it

The center Barrel has a hole in the bottom this lets the wood gas come out and burn

in between the barrels along with the scrap wood you loaded in there
makes for a clean burn very efficient

Running steam through it activates it

If you make your graphite out of sugarcane it will naturally be doped

If a free waste product is not one that is naturally doped

you can add egg whites or many other things to dope it

after you have your doped carbon
u can activate it by running steam through it

you can activate it in your microwave you can dope it in your microwave

you can do the whole process in your microwave for smaller amounts

Your next step would be to grind it up a small as possible in something like a blender

Sift it regrind what doesn't go through sift

After that you need a slow speed mixer

Easily made with  electric motor and a wire if you don't already own one

You will also need marbles or still bearings or something similar

You put you sifted carbon graphite what ever you wish to call it in you mixer along with water

This sheers the layers off instead of busting them

The difference betweens graphene and graphite is

It is graphene when it is sheared off and really thin

The whole process can be done in small batches in your kitchen

From start to finished test cell

Regular white Elmer's Glue school glue whatever you want to call it

Use under10% ratio mixed with water and you're graphene thus makes a paint

Aluminum foil makes good current collectors

You can also cut out thicker metal for this

The key is to make it small and the same size every time

I would suggest a centimeter square for your active material in the center of the two plates

you will be very surprised at how much energy you will get out of that little tiny piece of paper

You can also have two little squares active material with a piece of tissue paper in between for a separator

There is countless ways to do it watch a few videos and pick one

Kraft paper whatever you have on hand gets painted with you're graphene paint and maybe dust dry on top of paint front and back

You put your tinfoil collectors one on each side of the painted paper

after dripping enough electrolyte to thoroughly wet the cell through

Have something slightly heavy to sit on top of your cell to compress it and hold it together

you hook your alligator clips to the tin foil make sure they don't touch

I usually leave foil hanging on opposite sides

Charge your cell after charged discharge it and note the energy density while discharging

you can use carrots onions seaweed tree leaves any waste product wood sticks out of your yard

it will all make graphite and graphene the structure and quality differs between all of them

It is possible to build a battery by spraying or printing you're graphene onto paper

I thought about making lead acid cells

If I was to go that route I would do a pasted red oxide plate and pasted yellow oxide plate

Both red and yellow oxide are fairly easy obtained form recycling old batteries

I think red oxide forms around 300 degrees and yellow around six or seven hundred degrees don't quote me on those

If you don't mind cutting open old batteries and melting lead you can use the same containers for the new battery

You can make a mold for a grided plate to paste your oxides on and reuse the separator socks

I think it can be done indefinitely

I forget the name of these batteries but if I remember correctly

they are really good batteries that last just as long or longer than regular batteries

I honestly think graphite batteries will be the best way to go

It is a super capacitor and battery
in one

After your graphite testing is done

then you start testing for the electrolyte that holds the most energy
while giving your requirements

The electrolyte will determine your cell voltage

This type of battery can be more energy dense than current lithium or less than lead acid

I do believe even if the  least of these was chosen

it still beats lead acid because of the life of the battery low cost and the simplicity of construction

Boy that's a lot to write

just look of Robert Smith on youtube if you are interested he also has video on red and yellow lead batters

Monkey see monkey do surely you didn't think I came up with any of this lol

This is the future of batteries

God bless ya and have a bless day

Rather than invent a new cell take a look at old 4wd stating batteries just tip the acid out in a suitable container then add a saturated solution of baking soda. It will bubble for days so drain out the battery and put a new solution of baking soda in. It may take 4 goes to stop the bubbles but when the bubbles stop time to flesh the battery several times with fresh water. Then make up magnesium sulphate concentrated solution then put the battery on a solar panel I left my first conversion on 4 by 5 watt panel for a month. Now that battery serves as the fan power for the cooling on my listeroid.

Got another donor battery to start and I'm thinking of getting 20 of these to convert and just see off the power off the batteries will power my welder.

Just food for thought

Cheers Bryan
