Hey fellas, I'm having a problem with my hakko solder station, it appears to have no temp control.

Seller is just stuffing me around, and asks for videos which I have done on youtube, but he said that the chinese can't access youtube.

Just wondering if someone has had this problem and if there is an easy fix.

Bugger me, I'v never seen one that hot.
Perhaps they wired up the Trim pot incorrectly?

Other brands I have used don't have a temperature sensor, just current control. Edited by Revlac 2018-04-01

Well it did work initially, so there appears to be a fault generated after manufacture, not a mistake at the factory.

How do these little sh*ts measure the temp?
In the pencil?

Nothing in my pencil

Ok I see 5 wires.
2 would be the heating element
2 likely to be the temp sense
the other???

Would check the resistance between each see if any is open circuit, obviously the heater isn't.
Perhaps the temp sensor is burnt?
And see it someone els with the same type of unit gets the same readings.

But what do I know?

I'm suspecting it's something in the box as three different pencils do the same thing.

Hi Mark,

The LED should start blinking when it gets to the correct temperature and should never get anywhere near red hot.

Plenty of circuit diagrams online if you search Hakko 936 Revlac is right about 4 wires other is ground.

Could either be a problem with the temperature sensing circuit or the SCR (I think) is short circuit. You should be able to measure a change in resistance of the sensor as it heats up.
A replacement PCB is only $384, probably worth ordering one regardless of whether you get a result from the seller.

It is worth getting spare heaters and tips while you are at it, that tip that has got red hot probably won't last long.Edited by Madness 2018-04-02

That replacement PCB is only about $3 ,if I see the correct price.

I've been scratching my head about your problem also , gee, that iron ia red hot . must be the sensing controller ,for sure ..

I allways remember my solder station --I was on jury service once and with the cheque they sent me ,I walked into Dick Smith store and bought my solder station .
So, how about that -nice bit of bs for a sunday morning ,eh?

Bruce -what a boofhead.

Haha there is an easy fix, thanks Mad.
I won't bother with seller and just get that part.

Cheers.

Sorry I left out the dot $3.84 AUD for the PCB posted.

I would still stick it up the seller, I have never had Aliexpress refuse at least a partial refund, usually, the seller comes to the party.Edited by Madness 2018-04-02

yeah, not being able to access youtube is bullsh*t. I had issue with an aliexpress order and they wanted a video. Posted it on youtube and got a partial refund (which is what I was after).
