Hi all, did anyone look at the systems (just ended) on ebay. there was 30 off 175 W panels for $12700, and 2.5 kW grid tie inverters for around $1800. pretty cheap, especiallly when you take the value of the recs away.

On the face of things it looks like they are trying to match a 2.5KW inverter with 5.25 KW of panels? Or were there two inverters?
Panel price is about as low as you can expect at present.
The trouble with buying panels etc. on eBay is finding an installer as most installers seem to be tied to companies who only want to supply and install.Edited by neil0mac 2010-04-27 |

Yes one would need more than one inverter.
I am lucky in that a good mate of mine is a solar installer....

If it sound too good to be true it probably is.
I've settled on $2.66/W locally which works out at $4K for 1.5KW.
Mounting hardware causing me grief, will more than likely use the energy matters stuff.

Most mobs / thieves are asking $80 for the DC breaker alone plus $50 for the box + +.
I'm looking at 1.9KW for $5K panels, $1550 inverter $200 cables breakers, $700-800 mounting hardware (will have some spare) and $800 for the installer.
less about $6500 in RECS rebate so $1850 bills for a 1.9KW system bargain!
even Nu energy is asking $5K for 2KW
I'll go bigger when funds allow

What is a 'reasonable price per panel' for an 'average' install - if such a beast exists?
And by average, I guess is mean, no assistance from the owner to put up racks.
OK, trenching, tracker construction etc. would be extra.
And while I'm about it, is it easier to install the electrics on a tracker (working off the ground and/or trestles or ladder) or a roof?
I am just trying to decide whether my installer labour estimate is too low, adequate, or high. And of course(?), wiring up a big inverter is about the same cost as a tiny one? Have allowed for $100 per (16 or 24?) panel - just for the electrical work, no fixing of the panels in place - for my ground mounted tracker which I think is excessive!Edited by neil0mac 2010-04-29 |

Hi Bob , all, I am still dreaming of adding more panels, especiallly ATM when the RECs are such a good price. I would rather deal with someone on the ground in Aus but havent made any firm plans yet. The xyl is a big diode when it comes to funds travelling in the opposite diection hi hi.

XYL's are always a problem when it comes to money and when they let a bit flow they do a good imitation of a zeener.
Have to explain hoe it will save enough to buy a new pair of thongs every so often.
