Anyone know of any GTI inverters ( preferably older/ cheaper) that have a fast start up? I want to switch the power in to an intermittent load but don't want to wait ( hopefully) the 2 Min or so all the inverters I have now take. Either that or is there a way to keep an inverter idling on a circuit and somehow ramp it up when the load is switched in on either the AC or DC side? |

Some are programmable, i have a cms 2000 one that does also a aurora 3kw .. usually bout 20 secs is minimum. I think it works !! |

I have a couple of Aurora's . They seem to be more like 90 sec. Had a bunch of Older Micro inverters and those things were like 5 Min! I thought they were all stuffed when I got them and then left one connected on teh test set up and came back and saw it was working. Tested the others and they were all the same. Nearly threw them out! I also have an older transformer type. That tends to drag it's feet as well. I wonder if I could switch the output with a mosfet fast enough to stop the things resetting. I tend to doubt it. |

Hi George65, Each Country has rules and regulations how the Grid Tie Inverter syncs and locks onto the available AC supply fed from the Main utilities Electricity company. In the UK the GTI code is G41, such like, and Australia has its own code and other countries the same. However some GTI manufacturers list all these codes in the machine and the Installer just sets them for the Country of installation. I have Codes to alter these settings with a well known German company, and I have set up my own code/parameters for the OzInverter AC Mini Grid. In practice a 10 second delay on start up is about the safest and doesn't thrash the interior AC relay to much with false triggering. I also alter the AC voltage trip out so I can switch GTI's off in sequence as the AC climbs, if there is no load being drawn . So yes you can bring the start up speed down, but not get rid of it altogether. 'Warpspeed' and others on this forum are working on an Inverter that will respond to loads instantly and compensate for feedback. I trust this helps. Everything is possible, just give me time. 3 HughP's 3.7m Wind T's (14 years). 5kW PV on 3 Trackers, (10 yrs). 21kW PV AC coupled SH GTI's. OzInverter created Grid. 1300ah 48v. |

http://whirlpool.net.au/wiki/solar_software This might help... i can also alter the time until disconnect from grid after a fault.. mine i maxed out everything cause its off grid anyways... i have the software for the aurora and the cms 2000 if you get stuck . I think it works !! |

Thanks for that! Followed the links but they are dead for the aurora. If you could send them if I can PM you my email, that would be most appreciated. Not sure they will help with this application but there are other things I'd like to see if I can adjust. Have 2 auroras so would be very helpful. I also have another 2 x 2Kw units. They boot up and kick in but the output is all over the place. Like from 10W to 1500 and to 300 then 50 then back to 400 etc. Anyone know if that's a problem that can be or is worth fixing? Wish I had the software to play with the settings on my Bosch and Delta units as well. |

Ok.. ill get that organized ASAP, the aurora 3kw i have has a usb port in the side, but i had all sorts of trouble with win 7 talking to it (typical), winxp was fine and linix was happy as well (although linix had no programe support, again typical).. I would suggest purchasing one of these ( https://rover.ebay.com/rover/0/0/0?mpre=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.ebay.com.au%2Fulk%2Fitm%2F263584276477 ) to talk to it, using cat6e cable the computer can be (by memory ) a 1km away. I think it works !! |

You can program quite a few thing on the aurora, very flexible. . About the other units, im no pro, but without actually looking at them i really couldnt help sorry.. I would love to just host the programs here for all to download but im unsure of the process , it has max/min voltage tolerance and frequency, time to reconnect and time lapse to disconnect. . You can even limit output .. I think it works !! |

George there is a way to do this, I assume you are wanting to avoid exporting too much power. The Eversolar inverters I have will do it and from what noneyabussiness has said it would appear the Aurora has similar capabilities. Eversolar will do it if you have the right hardware including a sensor for the power being exported. You can then set a cap on the export, this would also mean that the inverter would increase it's output when there is less sunlight available. Once set up, in theory, you could have 100KW of panels buy never export more than the setting of 5KW or whatever you choose. Aurora seems to have some way as per this link. There are only 10 types of people in the world: those who understand binary, and those who don't. |

A little more tricky than that Mad. I have a 3 phase AC and one phase is an electronic rather than spinny meter. As this meter is an early electronic type, I have confirmed though multiple sources including the manufacturers own info that any back feed is registered as import. this was done because it was assumed that backfeedng was installing the connections backwards to steal power. What I want to do is have an inverter on that phase but to avoid being charged for the power that would backfeed when the AC compressor kicks out, I want to either stop or divert the power when the compressor is idle. I actually wouldn't care if I could feed power back and the company got a free bonus, Just don't want to be charged for it! :0) I would ideally like to have the inverter booted up and running and then when the compressor kicks in, have a relay or pickup on the phase that diverted the power to the phase then switched out when the compressor stopped. I'm not a boffin like you and so many others here so unless someone wants to build me something, it has to be a simple soloution. The problem is the Compressor switches in and out and from listening to the evaporator fan, I can tell that for the most part after initial switch on, by the time the inverter kicked in from a standing start, it would be lucky to contribute any power before the compressor shut off again and the inverter went idle as well. The only other thing I can think of is to see if the cut in and cut out temps could be widened to allow the unit to run longer to bring the temp back up or down so the inverter had time to kick in and contribute something worth while. Better still would be to create the 3rd leg from one or both of the other 2. Not sure if a VFD could do this? My last power bill was $300 and $190 of it was from that phase. The ONLY thing on that leg now is 1/3rd of the AC. I have enough solar to be totally self sufficient if I want so I would like to get that leg down just from a balance POV on my bill even if the others went up a bit. |

I don't think mine has. They are the older models like this: https://rover.ebay.com/rover/0/0/0?mpre=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.ebay.com.au%2Fulk%2Fitm%2F263584276477 Pretty sure they do have the ports like that adapter you linked connects to and they have the rs 232? I think it is. I have an old laptop that runs XP I was thinking of putting up there as a monitoring/ downloading machine. Appreciate the help! |

Found this: https://www.aliexpress.com/item/solar-grid-tie-power-limiter-prevent-extra-power-to-grid-for-SUN-series-grid-tie/3235224 8707.html?spm=2114.search0104.8.54.79e15d62xkUFSb&priceBeautifyAB=0 but it appears to be an add on module for an inverter. What would be ideal is a standalone I could put between the meter and the AC line with the inverter feeding in. |
