I have a 250 watt panel that is about 5 years old and I noticed it was only putting out 10 volts or so of a 30 volt expected .

When I got it down the movement had fixed it and it works perfectly again now .

I noticed however the corrosion builduo between the solder circuits that you see in the pictures .

Does snyone know if this can be fixed ?

Can i drill through the front ,drill off the corrosion and then seal up again with silicon?
I am guessing this is caused by moisture getting in as this was the down portion of the panel

Why do you make me turn my firewall off to uplioad files . No other sites I use do that . What are you hiding???

Are these still under warranty? It's a manufacturing defect, panels should last 25 years or more.

You could fix these from the back, its only a thin layer of plastic behind the panels. You will never drill through the glass, its hardened and will shatter. Scrap off the plastic ( from the back ) and carefully make the repair.

I dont make you turn your firewall off to upload files! Members have been uploading files for over 10 years, first time I've heard of a firewall issue. I would suggest your firewall is set up incorrectly, or to restrictive. I would make a few suggestions on how you could fix it, but since you're accusing me of hiding something, I frankly dont care!

Ditto what Glenn says.

Absolutely no reason you firewall should complain about uploading, unless it's incorrectly configured.

Then again, some other piece of malware could be jumping along for the ride;
trying to punt the upload somewhere else.

Which firewall is it?Edited by Phil23 2018-01-17

I have seen that damage before !!!
Its usually caused by a tiny rip/tear/cut in the plastic insulation behind/ on the back of the panel. If the panel is working I would leave it well alone.
Making the damage bigger will only make it worse.

I can upload files perfectly well, and I have a very vigorous firewall, full Debian system here.

It is a simple repair.

Use a heat gun to soften the tedlar, and then tidy up the damage. You can then use ethylene vinyl acetate to close the surgery, or if no ethyelene acetate, then use hot gun glue... done it many times on old electric fence solar panels.... silicon as a last resort.

The heat gun is king for this type of problem otherwise everything is rock solid... heat turns it to mush. Don't concentrate it on any part for too long. It is heat treated glass, but it is also easy to destroy with a scratch or localised heat.... do not recommend drills of any kind.... just heat will soften the front and back of the "stuff".... maybe a knife and or screw driver.. depends how evil you feel at the time.
