There is a bit more than just steam there, looks like a wet blow off. My Rheem glass topped panels give up at about 80 degrees and the water never gets above there.Edited by Madness 2017-01-09

When we get a few fine days in a row this time of year we are getting a lot of hot water, can hear the solar water heater on the roof start rumbiling away and thats what you see in photo,
we are doing some clothes washing with warm water n having baths etc just to use it, ha, good way to be I sappose. It will be a diffrent story in winter though.

The new 300litre heater with the copper coil in the tank works well,so much better than the copper rod peice of junk that it replaced as decribed further back in this post,
Within days of replacing the copper rod heater, we had the surplus hot water.

Hi Fred

Awesome result, well for summer time like you point out. You have surplus energy, bit like Rustyrod with him living in a windy location.

Need to get a solar system of my own up and running, will use PV array first off then supplement it with water heating like you have.

Cheers

David
There are realities if you do not accept, will lead to frustration because you will be spending time on wrong assumptions and the results cannot follow! The Dunning Kruger Effect :)

yep that would be a good start, with your pv array, try to use panels that are all the same , makes life easier, not like my setup.

Hi Glenn,

I've browsed this thread numerous times ofer the past year or so.

How about this for an alternate idea for anti-freezing.

A discarded S/Steel Beer Keg.
2 Motorised 2 way ball valves.

At night the low ambient chills the 50ish litres of water in the Keg.
Too large a volume to freeze.

It may need a circulation pump periodically, but it may also thermosiphon.

Day comes & you reverse the valves.

Bonus is cold drinking water, which may or may not be much use in winter.

Cheers

Phil.

PS, I know it's a strange solution, but could be food for thought.
