My mate wants to instal a Solar Panel System... whats the go? Can anyone recormend a current instaler & deal for Hamilton, Victoria.

He currently uses 500 bucks a quarter. And wouldnt mind up to 5kwt inverter so can expand from about 3 kwt amount of panels in the future.

Been looking at truevaluesolar.com.au and wandering if this might be anygood?

He might need to be warned about the installation of the "smart meter " if it is to be fitted along with the system.
With the different tarrifs that are switched in and out , using power in peak times can cost a lot more than he might be being charged at presen, if the bulk of his power is being used in these times and can not be changed due to routine , it may not be a good deal .

Hi Blowit

You should have started a new thread for this question. Off topic posts dont usually get replied to.

You can use yout 24v panel on 12 volts, but you'll be loosing about half its rated power. Solar cells are constant current devices, so if you reduce the voltage, current wont increase. A 200 watt panel at 24 volts would be pushing about 8 amps. If you connect it to a 12v battery, it will still only supply 8 amps, so you only get half the watts ( W=V*I ), a 100 watt panel.

Some panels can be configured for 12 or 24 volts, have a look in the junchion box at the back of the panel, you may be able to change it to 12 volt operation.

A MPPT could also work, but do your research to see if it will handle the higher input voltage.
