Hi Guys,
I am looking at getting a BP Solar Polycrystalline Panel 220w the PDF spec sheet for it is Here

My question is: will this run one of those cheap chinese 300watt grid tie inverters? They run on 14-28v this panel has a nominal voltage of 20v and produces between 6.08Amps to 7.6Amps

Technically it should work, but though I'd better ask first.

Thanks Guys.

Hi Paul

The panel you propose is 24 volt panel 36 volt output which is too high for a 14-29 inverter you need the next higher voltage GTI to work properly. I suggest you spend a few extra dollars and get a 500 / 600 watt unit as they don't get so hot from working so hard.

all the best

Hi Bob,
Thanks for your reply.

Does anyone know what is meant by the "nominal voltage" of this panel? I agree the open voltage is too high, but the nominal voltage is too low for charging a 24v battery bank?

This is confusing

Thanks again.

Hi Paul

It is the maximum efficiency voltage and maximum load voltage that is the battery charging range in your case 28 volts to 36 volt range the 20 volt rate is just to confuse us I think.
A mppt regulator allows the panel to operate at its most efficient voltage and extracts the most watts from the panel.
Problem with the MPPT in the little GTI is it shuts down over 30 volts in my experience then the GTI shuts down and the the volts goes to Max and can blow the unit. They are a rather fragile unit as I have a shelf full of US ones so you must be careful.

All the best

Bob

Ah OK,

So if I get an MPPT charge controller I could still charge a 24v battery bank with this panel?

Thanks again Bob
