Notice. New forum software under development. It's going to miss a few functions and look a bit ugly for a while, but I'm working on it full time now as the old forum was too unstable. Couple days, all good. If you notice any issues, please contact me.

I have just taken apart a 3.8kW SMA GTI. Had a misfortune in transit. Unfortunately not repairable, but interesting internals. This is a transformer coupled unit.

Some pics of the interesting bit.

This is the main power switching component. There are no wires, and it is solderless construction. The unit measures 42mm per side, and the device passes 3800W. It is thermally bonded to the case/heatsink.

The technology is certainly improving.

I have to find a new home for it now.
